The Acreage Cancer Study

A resource for residents...

Thank you for visiting The Acreage Cancer Study website. This site has been developed to help share information to those who live in or around the Acreage (which includes Loxahatchee, Unincorporated West Palm, and parts of Royal Palm Beach) in Florida.

You most likely made your way to this site because you are aware of the Cancer Study currently being conducted in our area by the Florida Department of Health (not us - we are in no way conducting the study). This study was requested when it was discovered that multiple children and adults suffered or died from brain tumors and live within a close radius of one another. The study was requested in May of 2009.

On February 1, 2010 the Florida Department of Health declared the Acreage a "Pediatric Cancer Cluster".

Please note: We are not The Florida Department of Health. We are concerned residents just like you. We are seeking answers to a long list of questions and we are hoping that this website provides useful information to you. This is a privately run and owned website.

Map

If you would like to print this map, you can use the print option off your web browser.

Disclaimer: This map is intended to be used as a visual tool ONLY. The information reflected on this map has been voluntarily provided by persons from The Acreage.  Please note that we have not updated this map in months. If you would like your information added to this map, please email us at info@theacreagecancerstudy.com and provide us with your address, sex, age, and diagnosis.

This map reflects data that we have collected via personal emails & phone calls. All of our data is self-reported by residents. If you are ill and would like your information placed on our map, please complete the questionnaire (located below and on our Study Info page) and email it to braintumorinfo@bellsouth.net.

This data does not reflect data collected by the Florida Department of Health.

We are keeping track of all diagnosed health issues that residents report to us. We are not simply tracking brain tumors and cancer. As you can see on the map, we are tracking all health concerns that are reported to us. The reason for this is because if there are environmental hazards found in the Acreage, it could cause multiple illnesses. Not just brain tumors and brain cancer.

To view information associated with each bullet simply click on the bullet.

Each bullet will include the following:

  • Adult or Child
  • Male or Female
  • Diagnosis
  • If it is a brain tumor we will note whether it is malignant (M) or non-malignant (NM)

At the request of site members who just want to know how many brain tumors and cysts are on the map, we have provided a breakdown below:

  • Adults with brain tumors: 46
  • Adults with brain cysts: 5
  • Children with brain tumors: 18
  • Children with brain cysts: 3
  • Adults with optic tumors: 3
As new data comes in from residents we will try to update the map and tally (above) as frequently as we can.

Attention Potential Victims

We are trying to update our Victim Database. We ask that if you live in the area and have a brain tumor, some form of cancer, or another diagnosed medical problem, that you send  an email to braintumorinfo@bellsouth.net. We need your email to contain the following information:

  •  Name
  • Address
  • Length of residency
  • Date of birth or age
  • Specific diagnosis (ex. Astrocytoma Brain Tumor)
  • Date of diagnosis
  • Treatment
  • Employment background
  • Any other medical conditions
  • Contact information
  • Whether you drink and/or cook with well water
  • If you have lived at multiple locations in or around the Acreage, please list them all
  • Did you build your home or did you go through a builder? If so, which builder?
  • Do you garden or eat food items grown in your yard?
  • Do you go to a particular park often?
  • Do you eat fish or game caught locally? If so, where?
  • Do you have a pond on your property?
  • Did you ever have fill put on your property?

This information is necessary for the victim database.

We would also like those who are in need of medical assistance to let us know. We would like to keep a list of those in need so that when services become available we can notify you.  Please specify what  type of assistance you need so we can better assist you.

If you have any questions, please send an email to: info@theacreagecancerstudy.com
