BARRE, Vt. -- Results of Vermont residents' well tests following Irene are beginning to turn up, and they showed some cases in which the water is contaminated.
The Times Argus reported that in hard-hit Pittsfield, where many households have sent in samples to the state laboratory, a number of wells have been compromised by pollutants washed in by the storm's floodwaters.
